EPS board is also called expanded polystyrene board, molded polystyrene foam, EPS foam, foam board, etc. It is made of expandable polystyrene (EPS) heated in a mold. It is a thermoplastic material with excellent long-lasting thermal insulation, unique cushioning, shock resistance, aging resistance and water resistance. It is widely used in households. Shock-absorbing packaging for electrical appliances and handicrafts, road foundations, railway foundations, backfilling of basement roofs, hollow floors, lost foam casting, sculptures, garden landscapes, etc.

Flame-retardant EPS insulation board also has good flame-retardant properties. It has been widely used in thermal insulation systems for building exterior walls, roofs, geothermal heat, vehicles, ships, etc.

EPS consists of a completely closed polyhedral honeycomb. The diameter of the honeycomb is about 0.2~0.5mm, and the wall thickness is about 0.001mm. EPS is composed of approximately 98% air and 2% styrene. The air trapped in the honeycomb is a poor conductor and plays a decisive role in the excellent thermal insulation performance of EPS. Unlike foams that contain other gases (for example, the newly made polyurethane honeycomb cavity is filled with Freon), the air in the EPS stays in the honeycomb for a long time without change, so the thermal insulation performance can remain unchanged for a long time.

In GB/T10801.1-2002 “Molded Polystyrene Foam for Thermal Insulation”, EPS boards are roughly divided into the following categories according to their density, and the corresponding performance indicators are as follows:

The EPS board is made of many beads extruded together by heating and pressure. The fusion between the beads is very important. It will directly affect the thermal conductivity, water absorption and other performance indicators of the EPS.

The EPS board has a low thermal conductivity, and the elastic multi-space structure can absorb heat and moisture stress. Even if water vapor condenses and freezes under rare climatic conditions, its own structure will not be destroyed in an environment of 80°C~-180°C. The EPS board is light in weight and has a certain compressive and tensile strength. It can support the protective layer of the plaster on its own strength, without the need for pulling parts, to avoid the formation of thermal bridges. EPS has good chemical stability, acid and alkali resistance, and good durability.
